Flea market bling and things | February 4, 6 pm
Here’s another opportunity to pick up some clothes, trinkets and early Valentines gifts this weekend. BLING & PLATOON night flea market is a chance for independent vendors to set up shop (well, more like a blanket on the ground) to sell their fashion or design goods—both old and new. There will be DJ sets to drone out the chatter, acoustic performances to warm up the space and even a “1,000 won auction.” We also hear they have a new pojangmacha (street food) menu to fuel your evening.

Street Jam | February 5, 3–10 pm
On Sunday, Street Jam will celebrate its 10th anniversary as 40 to 50 dance teams vie for the top prize before a panel of judges. American hip hop pioneer, Mr. Wiggles will be both judging and performing. View the roster here and see if it’s worth the 20,000 won admission (with Drifterz, one of Korea’s most famous b-boy crews, as part of the lineup, we have an inkling it might be!). Street Jam will take place at AX Korea, located near Gwangnaru station (exit 2).

2011 Label Market | Performances on February 4, 5, exhibition through February 20
The third floor of SangSangMadang in Hongdae has been converted into a gallery for the ears. The first exhibition is curated by a group of ten “music lovers,” including radio producers, filmmakers, music critics and magazine editors who each selected their favorite album cover of the year. Don’t miss “Fantasy Lineup,” another featured exhibition in which Korean artists and designers were asked to put together the concert poster of their dreams, using their favorite musicians. And lastly, artists from the indie label Replay Music (리플레이뮤직) will display their work through February 12 as musicians unveil their other artistic side with a rotating art exhibition. And to top it all off, there’s live music! This Saturday at 5 pm, you can catch Kim Ildu (김일두), Castella (카스테라), Gwak Pureun Haneul (곽푸른하늘), Zebra (얼룩말) and Yoon Nara (윤나라). On Sunday at 5 pm, KwonMilk & the Greatest Voyage (권우유와 위대한항해), Jennifer Waescher and Cosmos Sound (코스모스사운드) will take the stage. Main exhibition runs through February 20. SangSangMadang is located in Hongdae.

Ice Garden open skating | Through February 12
If Seoul Station is just too much of a hike for you south-of-the-river folks, Songpa-gu is home to the Ice Garden Skate Rink, inside the Garden 5 mega-complex. And why not take along a special someone? The sparkling LED lights adorning the ceiling, they say, make for a “fantastic romantic atmosphere.” Admission 2,000 won, skate rental 1,000 won. Open 10 am–9 pm weekdays/10pm weekends.

Thanks to Sejin Yang and Ruth Youn for the tips!
